Department Profile
Department Profile page types can serve as either a landing page for a department, or a landing page for a cabinet. These pages should provide residents easy navigation to services and information under that department or cabinet.
Best Practices
When Choosing your title, leave out “Office of” or “Department of”. This will ensure that your page appears in the correct alphabetical order on our Department List page.
If your department or cabinet does not already have a department icon, you’ll need to reach out to [email protected]. Icons will appear on both the department page and next to the department name on the Department List page.
Keep in Mind
Most visitors to Boston.gov will not know how to navigate the City’s internal department architecture to find the information or services they need. When setting up pages, think about what groups of users are visiting the page, the topics for which they are most likely looking for information, and prioritize that content at the top of the page.
Example: It is unlikely that visitors will come to a department page in search of “about us” information. Instead, they are likely looking for actionable items, programs, or services. Keep services and actionable items toward the top of the page, and deprioritize information like “about our work”, putting it closer to the bottom of the page.
