Using the Sidebar Menu

You have a few different options in the sidebar menu. As you start to save drafts for your page, you’ll also notice the options change in the “edit” sidebar section.

For instance, here’s a page where I’ve made changes and created a draft that has been saved but not published:

Among my options in the sidebar, you are able to:

  1. "View live content": See the published version of the site.

  2. "Edit draft": Go into the backend to continue to edit the page.

  3. "Discard draft": Delete the existing draft of the page.

  4. "Submit for Review": Submit the page to the "needs review" section of the site. This is the last step you would take to get a page reviewed and published.

  5. "Publish new content": This action would publish the page. It is only available to users with advanced permissions.

  6. "Use custom log message": You can add a note before you save about any changes made to the page.

  7. "Show revisions": See previous drafts and versions of the website.

  8. "Clone": Make an exact copy of the existing page that you can edit without affecting the original site.

  9. "Usage": See where the page is being used on Boston.gov.

If you are viewing the "published" version of the website without a draft, you see fewer options:

In the screenshot above for a published page, you have the ability to:

  1. "Edit content": Jump into the backend and make edits to the page.

  2. "New draft": This creates a new draft of the page that you can work off of, similar to clicking the "Edit content" button and saving.
