Adding New Links

For most components, you have the option to add one of three types of links: internal, external, or document.

To add a new link, select the type you want to add at the bottom left-hand side of the component. Pick from the dropdown and click the "add another link" button:

Internal Links

To add an "internal" link, just search for the page you want to add and click on it. The "link text" field will default to the title of the page, but you can also add more specific text in that field:

You can see the final product below:

External Links

External links are primarily used for links not on Boston.gov. They are the easiest types of links to add to a component. All you need to do is copy and paste the full url of the page you want to link to and add some link text:

Note: It's OK to add Boston.gov links as "external" links in a component. There are some situations where you may search for a page through the "internal" link option and you can't find it. When that happens, you can use an "external" link and copy and paste the url and add a title field.

Document Links

When you add a new document, the initial screen allows you to add a specific title for your document, as well as a button to upload or choose a new document:

When you click the "choose/upload document" button, you'll be given the option to select an existing document or add a new one. If you want to add an existing file, select the button to the left of the file you want to add, and click "select document":

Note: The search in Drupal is looking for the actual file name. This is not a contextual search, so without the file name, you likely won't be able to find the file you're looking for. If you want to try to page through the files, the pages go from the oldest to the most recently uploaded files.

Clicking the "add document" option allows you to upload a new document to Drupal:

After you choose the file you want to upload from your desktop and give it a name, click the "upload and place" button to add it to the component:

Note: You can only upload the following file types to Drupal: .txt, .pdf, .xls, .xlsx, .docx, .doc, .pptx, .pptm, .ppt, .rtf, and .xlsm.
